Charles Ross & Son Company, a Hauppauge, New York-based manufacturer of industrial mixing equipment, has released a 250-gallon retention mixer built for high-pressure processing applications, according to a company announcement.1 The Ross Retention Mixer is designed to maintain product uniformity, prevent settling, maximize reaction yield, and provide continuous agitation through storage and unloading, the company explains. The mixers described in the July announcement have a 250-gallon full holding capacity and are rated for operation up to 200 psi at 300°F.

Construction details reflect the demands of pressure service. The retention mixer is fabricated from Type 304L stainless steel and is designed, built, and ASME stamped to Section VIII, Division 1 for pressure service, with each vessel hydrotested prior to shipment. Mixing is provided by fifteen agitator blades driven to 350 rpm by a 15 HP TEFC inverter-duty motor, and fourteen baffles are included to enhance product movement throughout the vessel. An angular contact steady bearing supports the 17-4 PH shaft, which is sealed with a dry-running single mechanical seal. According to the release, the vessel can be customized with nozzles for material additions, ventilation, drainage, and instrumentation, and the retention mixer line is available in capacities up to 5,000 gallons.
