In a January 27, 2025, news release, nutraceutical company Zeus Hygia Lifesciences introduced its proprietary pomegranate extract, Grantria. The new beauty-from-within oral supplement is intended to provide benefits for skin health and appearance, including reduced wrinkles and increased radiance. To support the claims of health benefits, Zeus Hygia highlighted results from a recent clinical study1, “Efficacy and safety of a proprietary Punica granatum extract in skin health - a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study in healthy volunteers,” which was published in the American Journal of Translational Research in December 2024 and funded by Zeus Hygia.

The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Grantria, with 60 female participants receiving a daily 300 mg dose of Grantria, or placebo, for 60 days, after a skin health evaluation at baseline. A dermatologist measured changes in crow’s feet wrinkles, tactile roughness, skin radiance, forehead fine lines, and forehead wrinkles, and a skin topography assessment measured changes in pores, spots, skin tone evenness and elasticity, and firmness.

In the test group, the results on day 60 compared with day one included:

  • Crow’s feet wrinkles decreased significantly from 3.00±0.8 on day one to 1.55±0.60
  • Tactile roughness decreased from 4.45±1.11 to 2.52±0.68
  • Skin radiance increased from 5.30±1.16 to 7.58±0.64
  • Forehead fine lines decreased from 3.00±1.26 to 1.65±0.83
  • Forehead wrinkles decreased from 3.95±1.69 to 2.38±1.08

Additionally, by the end of the study, facial pores and dark spots were reduced by 4.58% and 2.78% respectively. The subjects in the control group reported fewer improvements in all categories. No adverse effects were reported during the study.

According to the company, Grantria is developed with Advanced Oil-Powder (ADOP) technology and standardized to the pomegranate bioactives ellagic acid, punicic acid, and punicalagin. For synergistic skin health benefits, it also contains trace amounts of plant Vitamin C and Zinc.

Skin appearance and health, the study noted, is affected by various factors including hormonal changes, sun exposure, and environmental pollution. As an alternative to topical skin care products, oral supplementation for skin health has been a growing trend.

“Nutricosmetics is an area rich with product development opportunities, such as gummies, stick packs and soft gels, along with conventional tablets and capsules,” stated Arun Kanth, Zeus Hygia co-founder and director, in the news release. “The beauty of Grantria® is its proven multiple benefits for natural, safe and effective beautiful skin enhancement and overall women’s health.”

The supplement is manufactured in a GMP-certified facility and conforms to ISO 9001:2015. It is also Clean Label Project Certified and holds a Health Canada Product License (NPN 80135552).

The press release also reported the opening of Zeus Hygia Nutra LLC, a subsidiary of Zeus Hygia India, as Zeus Hygia’s North American headquarters in Davenport, Florida.
