Rousselot’s Nextida GC: Clinical Data, US Patent, and the Byon Beverage Launch
Live from Natural Products Expo West 2026, we speak with Lauretta Katsriku, Global Category Leader, Collagen with Rousselot, about Nextida GC collagen peptides research and applications.
In this interview, Rousselot’s Lauretta Katsriku, Global Category Leader, Collagen, discusses new clinical data on Nextida GC, a bioactive collagen peptide shown to support postprandial glucose control, increase and sustain GLP‑1, and delay gastric emptying in prediabetic participants. She highlights a newly granted U.S. patent protecting its specific composition for metabolic health applications and explains Byon, a new beauty-and-performance beverage combining Peptan and Nextida GC.

Erin McEvoy: Hello, everyone. I'm here with Lauretta Katsriku at Rousselot, here to talk about collagen peptides. So Rousselot recently completed its second clinical study on Nextida GC to validate its effects on glucose control. Could you share more about these latest findings and how they differentiate Nextida GC from standard collagen peptides?
Lauretta Katsriku: Yes, thank you very much for that question. So this second study is very exciting in that it actually confirms what we found in the first study. So this is a human clinical study that actually tested Nextida GC in two dosage forms. So we have 5 grams and 10 grams of Nextida GC that was consumed by participants 30 minutes before a carb heavy meal. What this study actually confirms, and what you would see as a main difference between Nextida GC and a standard collagen peptides, is that this study actually confirms that the consumption of Nextida GC prior to a carb heavy meal actually has specific post prandial glucose control benefits. It actually also shows an increase in GLP-1 secretion upon intake, as well as a sustained GLP-1 level up to about two hours after intake. Very interesting enough as well, this study actually confirmed that there was a significant delay in gastric emptying in a specific pre diabetic cohort.
McEvoy: That's really interesting, definitely. So can you tell us about more about the new US patent granted for Nextida GC? Why is this such an important development for Rousselot and its clients?
Katsriku: Yes, it's really exciting to see our patents granted. Of course, one of the things that’s exciting about this patent is that it substantiates our focus on science, which is at the core of everything that we do. Additionally, this patent actually supports Rousselot’s strategy in advancing beyond collagen peptides in structural applications to targeted, specific health, functional benefits. And so this is also very exciting for us to see this patent protects a specific composition of bioactive collagen peptides, and actually gives our customers or different brands the opportunity to utilize this product in various metabolic health benefits products.
McEvoy: Nice, definitely, very helpful. So at Expo West Rousselot is launching Byon, a beauty and performance beverage concept that includes Nextida GC and Peptan. So how did you collaborate with the brand to create an effective and appealing beverage, and what is unique about this positioning of the beverage?
Katsriku: Yes, this beverage is very exciting. Actually, we have it right there behind you. Byon is a brand that actually uses both, as you mentioned, both Peptan, which is a collagen peptide, as well as Nextida GC, which is which are specific compositions of bioactive collagen peptides, right? And what this actually shows is the versatility of both products. You can use both products in one formulation to make various claims. So collagen peptides for beauty from within, as this brand is actually showing and also making metabolic health claims using Nextida GC. The collaboration was really strong in that we were able to support the customer with formulations, and also some of the scientific studies behind all of this, both products, right? This product was launched sometime last year in Austria, and we were happy to collaborate with them and showcase that you don't always necessarily just have to use one product, depending on the kind of claim that you're looking to make you can actually mix a match and to get the end product or the end claim that you're looking for.
McEvoy: Nice. Excellent. Thank you very much for meeting with me.
