Kaged Muscle (Huntington Beach, CA) has launched the first U.S. product featuring Lonza’s (Basel, Switzerland) new TWK10 sports probiotic strain. Derived from naturally fermented Taiwanese kimchi, TWK10 is a Lactobacillus plantarum strain that has been clinically shown to increase exercise endurance by up to 75%.1
The new Kaged Muscle product, Pro-biotic Premium Performance, is marketed to enhance endurance, reduce fatigue, and promote gut health. Its delivery system is Lonza’s Capsugel DRcaps capsules, which offer a modified-release profile especially beneficial for probiotic ingredients.
Nutritional Outlook has previously written about the growing presence of probiotics in the sports market.
In a Lonza press release, Kaged Muscle’s chief innovation officer, Brian Rand, stated, “Our customers are more conscious of what is included in the supplements they use to fuel their workouts. We were impressed with the TWK10 ingredient due to its substantial effects in athletes of all levels but also because it embodies a clean and naturally sourced ingredient, as it was originally isolated from food-based sources.”
