Ingredients firm Ingredion Inc. (Westchester, IL) plans to acquire TIC Gums Inc. (White Marsh, MD), a leading specialist in gums and hydrocolloid technology for foods and beverages, for $400 million by the end of the year. According to an Ingredion press release, TIC Gums’ “expertise with gum-based texturizers complements Ingredion’s expertise in starch technology, opening the door to new texture solutions for today’s food formulations.”

Ingredion looks to leverage TIC Gums’ portfolio of gum acacia and guar ingredients, among others. “This acquisition propels us into a new era of on-trend texture development and even more solutions for organic and clean-label demands,” said Ilene Gordon, Ingredion chairman and CEO, in a press release.

TIC Gums has two production facilities, one in the U.S. and one in China, and employs more than 200 people.
