NiroWell (Louisville, KY) has introduced a purple corn extract called Zamaize. Purple corn is known to be rich in anthocyanins, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The extract is derived from a proprietary purple corn hybrid called Suntava, and contains three families of anthocyanins: Cyanidin, Peonidin, and Pelargonidin. The most predominant are Cyanidin-3 glucosides.
“We are excited to launch a novel and patented source of anthocyanins,” said Chris Lavenson, president of NiroWell LLC, in a press release. “Zamaize addresses inflammation in a cost effective, natural way with a 100% domestic supply chain.”
Zamaize is non-GMO, gluten-free, allergen-free, and available in certified USDA organic. Potential applications for the ingredient include supplements, sports nutrition products, and functional foods and beverages.
