At this month’s Natural Products Expo West trade show, Deerland Enzymes & Probiotics (Kennesaw, GA) is debuting a new, healthy-aging ingredient called Solarplast. Solarplast is an extract formulated from dark, leafy greens, and is designed to optimize the body’s repair processes.
John Deaton, PhD, vice president of science and technology, Deerland, explained how the ingredient can help promote healthy aging: “The isolated chloroplasts from dark leafy greens, such as spinach, contain organelles that convert light to energy, working at a cellular level to assist in healthy aging.” Solarplast, notes the company, contains high natural concentrations of antioxidants, energy molecules, and molecular chaperones.
Deaton added: “Each of these components plays a role in healthy aging by repairing the damage done to our bodies through our everyday modern lives.”
According to Deerland, its Solarplast extract is “enzymatically enhanced” using a unique and proprietary manufacturing process. It is surrounded by a naturally occurring lipid protective coating and is well-suited for products in the healthy-aging, beauty-from-within, and digestive-health categories. It can be delivered via capsules, powder blends-for example, in smoothie mixes-or in finished food and beverage products.
