GC Rieber VivoMega announced in a recent press release the company’s 60th anniversary. To celebrate the special occasion, GC Rieber VivoMega will be showcasing their product portfolio of sustainable fish and vegan omega-3 concentrates at SupplySide Global 2025 taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, between October 29 to October 30, 2025.
The company first began as Alnes Marine Oils in Kristiansund, Norway, in the year 1965, where they worked in the production and trading of marine fish oils. Later on during the organization’s history, GC Rieber VivoMega, became a majority stakeholder in Alnes Mineral Oils and later took on operating under their name. Their facility located in Kristiansund has spent many years focused on producing high quality omega-3 concentrates.
GC Rieber VivoMega finished construction of a high-concentration production facility in 2010. At this facility, products were branded as VivoMega and the location dialed into the manufacturing of high and ultra grade omega-3 concentrates. In 2020, the organization expanded with constructing a 38,000 metric ton tank park which allowed the company to create a “a steadier output of omega-3 concentrates to meet rising demand.” GC Rieber VivoMega decided to delve into the vegan marketplace in 2023, through their non-GMO EPA+DHA Algae Oils.
Taking place in 2024, GC Rieber VivoMega finished their sixth facility expansion. With the new construction, it added an electric steam boiler that allowed for three of their facilities to operate on 100% renewable energy. According to the press release, this expansion also assisted with stronger heating capabilities in that allows easier extraction in the winter months and for consistency of the quality of their oils. “The integration of additional nitrogen improves sensory profiles by removing oxygen, and the incorporation of a no-code AI platform enables real-time predictions for operational efficiency, quality, and sustainability,” the press release mentioned.
“Over our long history, we have continually evolved to meet the growing demands of the global omega-3 market. We have achieved this by adhering to our three core values: creativity, diligence, and responsibility,” said Snorre Glærum Strand, CEO at GC Rieber VivoMega, in the press release. “Our mission has always been to improve human health through sustainable and innovative omega-3 solutions. We are incredibly proud of this milestone and deeply thankful to our team, customers, and partners.”
At this year’s SupplySide Global event, the company will be launching 1060TG, an algal variation. Attendees at the show can visit Booth #4152 to learn more about GC Rieber VivoMega’s product portfolio.
Two New Omega-3 Production Technologies Launched at Expo West 2025
In a February 5, 2025, press release1, GC Rieber VivoMega announced it planned to introduce
“Omega-3 concentrate production truly is a blend of science and art,” said Kristi E. Aarak, PhD, technical business development manager at GC Rieber VivoMega, in the press release.1 “The raw material of the Omega-3s varies because of differences in its origin (fish or algae). For fish, this is even more so due to factors such as the time of season, the species, the location of the fishery, and so on. This variability influences the fatty acid profile of the raw material and impacts quality parameters such as oxidation, color, taste, and smell. Through utilization of our technology toolbox, regardless of the starting crude material, we can continually provide exceptional quality, purity, and sensory profiles for our VivoMega Fish and Algae oils.”
