Natural ingredients supplier Beijing Ginkgo Group (BGG; Beijing) and algae-ingredients supplier Solix Algredients (Fort Collins, CO) have merged to form a new company that will supply algae, fruit, and plant ingredients to the nutrition, food and beverage, personal care, and feed markets.

The new company will supply ingredients such as natural astaxanthin, DHA omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E tocotrienols, apple polyphenols, and fruit and berry extracts, among other ingredients. The new company’s combined range of products will feature patented ingredients and technologies from both entities.

Both companies have expertise in algae ingredients. BGG brings to the merger its expertise in natural raw materials, as well as its subsidiary, Algae Health Sciences Inc., which it created in 2016 to produce ingredients for the astaxanthin market. The consolidated company, including Solix Algredients, will be headquartered in Fort Collins, CO, and will operate globally. In a press statement from the new company, it stated that the next steps in the consolidation include development of the company’s Colorado production-scale facility for supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of astaxanthin and other ingredients.

Charlie Bowman, previously the chief commercial officer of Solix Ingredients, stated in a press release that the new company will help meet growing consumer demand for natural ingredients. “Our portfolio of natural extract, functional ingredients is well-aligned with current and emerging consumer demand,” he said. “We are strongly positioned to support our global customers' business and marketing strategies, and are excited to work together.” Bowman will serve as the managing director of the new company.

Added Chunhua Li, co-chairman of the new company: "When I founded BGG, my goal was to make it easier for consumers to manage their personal health and wellness. I am thrilled that our new company strengthens our leadership role in natural antioxidants while expanding our capabilities into new markets and applications."
