Press Release: CRN Offers Drug-Supplement Interaction Webinar for Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners

Article

The webinar will be held on August 23.

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2012-The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement industry, today announced it is hosting a free webinar on the interaction between dietary supplements and pharmaceutical drugs via the professional networking website, Pharmacist Society, an online community created by Skipta and sponsored by the Drug Store News Group, and its sister website Generation NP, which serves nurse practitioners. This webinar is part of CRN’s ongoing initiative to help ensure that healthcare practitioners have access to science-based information on dietary supplements and the supplement industry.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., EDT, and will be presented by Duffy MacKay, ND, vice president, scientific and regulatory affairs, CRN. Dr. MacKay is a naturopathic doctor who ran his own family practice in New Hampshire and sees patients on a part-time basis. In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. MacKay worked at several dietary supplement companies prior to joining CRN.

The webinar will provide an overview of the topic before exploring some of the more common drug-supplement interactions. Following his presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions via a live online Q&A chat. Pharmacist Society and Generation NP are closed-loop environments for members only, so the webinar will not be open to the public. For those who are unable to participate in the live event, it will be made available to download on-demand on both Pharmacist Society and Generation NP for a limited time.

This is the second webinar CRN is conducting with Pharmacist Society and the first on Generation NP.  To learn more about CRN’s participation on Pharmacist Society or Generation NP, please contact Trainor Walsh at twalsh@crnusa.org.
