The Canadian company says it is the first krill oil manufacturer to earn the distinction.
Neptune Technologies & Bioressources Inc. (Laval, QC, Canada) has become the first krill oil manufacturer with “Friend of the Sea” environmental certification. The manufacturer of Superba brand krill oil says only 30 fisheries have achieved the certification.
Fisheries can qualify for Friend of the Sea certification if stocks are not overfished, endangered species are not caught, fishing does not impact the seabed, and the company gradually reduces its carbon footprint.
Neptune’s new environmental certification can extent to distributors that can prove Neptune is their sole krill oil provider. Following an audit, the Friend of the Sea logo can appear on product packaging and marketing materials.
