During the upcoming Vitafoods Europe tradeshow in Geneva in May, Naturex (Avignon, France) will launch two new ingredients. The first is a blueberry ingredient called ThinkBlue, targeting cognitive health. The second new introduction is a turmeric ingredient called Turmipure, targeting joint health and ensuring supply-chain traceability.
The company describes ThinkBlue is an “enhanced” extract of wild blueberry that is linked with benefits for episodic memory. Episodic memory involves the recollection of experiences and events, such as locations, times, emotions.
“Not to be confused with conventional highbush or other wild blueberry extracts, ThinkBlue has a distinct fingerprint of active phytochemicals, including anthocyanins, chlorogenic acids, flavanols, proanthocyanidins, and flavanols,” the firm explained in a press release. “The patented technology behind ThinkBlue leverages the intrinsic benefits of wild blueberry by improving the stability and bioavailability of key phytochemicals.”
The company adds that ThinkBlue is being studied in a three-year research study with the University of reading to study the potential impacts of the ingredient on age-related cognitive decline.
The second new ingredient, called Turmipure, is a turmeric (Curcuma longa) ingredient sourced from Southern India and standardized to 95% curcuminoids and addressing the joint-health market. Importantly, says Naturex, the ingredient is completely traceable, providing added assurance against issues like adulteration-a rising concern in the popular turmeric market, “as unscrupulous players seek to make a quick profit,” Naturex said.
Turmipure and ThinkBlue are produced using Naturex’s Pathfinder initiative, which the company says guarantees traceability and supply-chain transparency.
