Omega-3 ingredient supplier EPAX AS (Aalesund, Norway) has received a “Friend of the Sea” award (in the omega-3 category) from Friend of the Sea (FOS), a nonprofit certifier of sustainable fishing and aquaculture projects.
EPAX received FOS certification in 2009. The company has a commitment to sourcing from approved sustainable fisheries and communicating these practices to its customer base.
EPAX’s marine omega-3 concentrates come from Peruvian-based Austral Group SAA, a fishing group that employs a number of sustainable fishing practices. Bycatch precautions ensure that fish, which were not intended to be caught, are released. The company uses 100% of raw material (crude fish oil) and uses manufacturing facilities intended to minimize water consumption and pollution.
“Receiving this support from Friend of the Sea encourages EPAX to continue building upon our commitment to traceable and accountable fishing practices,” said Thomas Gulbrandsen, EPAX sales and marketing Director. “Our EcoVision program ensures that every level of the supply chain is analyzed for sustainability and we're pleased that these efforts are a priority to our customers as well.”

Recent review states that pentadecanoic acid may support cellular stability for better longevity
June 25th 2024According to the paper’s author, Stephanie Venn-Watson, DVM, MPH, deficiency in pentadecanoic acid of ≤0.2% total circulating fatty acids increases the risk of ferroptosis, which a type of cell death cause by the peroxidation of fragile fatty acids in cell membranes that combines with iron thus increasing reactive oxygen species, and disabling mitochondria.
