Cognizin-Based Cognitive Support Supplements Launched in Australia and New Zealand

Kirin Holdings Company, Limited and Blackmores Limited announced on July 22, 2026, the upcoming launch of two new cognitive support supplements featuring Cognizin Citicoline, a branded ingredient from Kyowa Hakko Bio Co., Ltd.¹ The products will be sold as Blackmores Cognition Ultra in Australia and Blackmores Ultra Brain Care in New Zealand, with a phased rollout beginning in late July 2026. Both products share an identical formulation, with labeling adjusted to satisfy each market's regulatory requirements.

The launch is the first Blackmores product developed specifically to support cognitive performance, and it underscores the continued integration between Blackmores and Kyowa Hakko Bio since Blackmores joined the Kirin Group in August 2023. That relationship has paired Blackmores' consumer insight and brand distribution with Kyowa Hakko Bio's ingredient science, an alignment the companies describe as central to addressing health needs across the Asia-Pacific region.

What Are the Product and Formulation Details?

Each tablet of Blackmores Cognition Ultra and Blackmores Ultra Brain Care contains 250 mg of Cognizin Citicoline, with a recommended intake of two tablets daily, or as otherwise directed by a healthcare professional. Both products are manufactured at Blackmores' Braeside facility and are caffeine-free. In Australia, Cognizin Citicoline has been listed as a new ingredient by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, and the companies note that product claims are subject to jurisdiction-specific regulatory requirements.

Distribution will differ slightly by market. In Australia, Blackmores Cognition Ultra will launch first through Blackmores' official e-commerce channel, with pharmacy distribution following in September 2026, at a suggested retail price of AUD 45.00 for a 30-tablet pack. In New Zealand, Blackmores Ultra Brain Care will be available through pharmacy channels starting in late July 2026, at a suggested retail price of NZD 41.99. Pharmacy retail pricing in both markets will ultimately be set by individual retailers.

How Is the Ingredient Positioned?

Cognizin Citicoline is described as a clinically validated, patented form of citicoline produced through fermentation technology, and is positioned by Kyowa Hakko Bio as GRAS, allergen-free, and highly stable. The ingredient is marketed as supporting mental energy, focus, attention, and memory, drawing on the company's fermentation heritage and its position within Kirin Holdings' Health Science domain.

What Research Supports the Ingredient?

The Blackmores launch arrives alongside continued clinical investment in Cognizin from Kyowa Hakko. In a May 2026 announcement, Kyowa Hakko USA detailed a proof-of-concept study examining the acute, single-dose effects of Cognizin on cognitive performance and brain wave activity in healthy adults.² The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial gave healthy male adults either a 500 mg dose of Cognizin or a placebo, then assessed outcomes at 60 and 240 minutes post-ingestion using EEG brain wave analysis, validated cognitive performance tasks, and subjective mood and affect measures. While Cognizin's longer-term cognitive benefits are supported by an established body of research, this trial was designed to test whether measurable neuroelectric and cognitive changes could emerge after just one dose.

Katie Emerson, senior manager of scientific affairs at Kyowa Hakko USA, said the acute-dose research offers insight into how quickly Cognizin may begin supporting brain function, with potential relevance to product development in cognitive health, sports nutrition, and functional food and beverage categories.
