The low-dose water-dispersible turmeric extract improves skin health in women, according to the placebo-controlled, double-blind trial.

The low-dose turmeric extract TurmXTRA glow from Nutriventia has beneficial effects on skin health, new clinical research shows.1

Turmeric and skin health potential

As Ayurvedic physician Shefali Thanawala, lead author for the recently published clinical study, explains in an October 6, 2025, press release, though turmeric extract has been used in traditional medicine for cosmetic health, published trials on its effect on skin health are lacking.2 Rajat Shah, co-founder of Nutriventia, also explained that consumers who had been using products containing TurmXtra for joint support had been reporting improvements in skin health as well, initiating the new research into the supplement’s potential for beauty from within benefits. “Efficacy and Safety of an Oral Low-Dose Water-Dispersible Turmeric Extract Capsule on Facial Skin Health in Healthy Women: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial,” was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in September 2025. This study focused on the potential for improvements in individuals with healthy skin.

Study design: skin health measurements

This study involved 90 women, aged 18–40 years with one facial blemish (such as acne marks, age spots, or sunspots), who consumed either a 250 mg capsule of WDTE60N (TurmXtra glow) once daily, or placebo, for 60 days. The extract contained 60% (150 mg) natural curcuminoids. The main measurements of the study were for changes in the identified blemish, skin tone evenness, hydration, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and gloss.

Results: improvements in blemish reduction and skin hydration and tone

Overall, the researchers concluded that based on the results, the supplement was safe and effective. “WDTE60N 250 mg capsule was safe and effective in improving facial skin health in the participants,” they stated. “This study provides clinical evidence supporting WDTE60N as a promising cosmeceutical agent.”

Highlighted results include:

  • The supplement group demonstrated more reductions from baseline in blemish measurements compared to the placebo group. These reductions continued into day 60.
  • Starting at day 15, the supplement group showed more improvements in skin hydration and gloss as well as a reduction in TEWL. These benefits continued to day 60.
  • Participants in the supplement group reported improvements in skin glow, blemish reduction, and smooth skin tone starting at day 15, and reported maintained skin softness and moisturization stating at day 30 that continued to day 60.

The supplement was well tolerated, and no major adverse events were reported.

Supporting beauty from within

The study also notes the growing interest in natural and safe alternatives to conventional skin therapies such as chemical peels. Nutraceuticals, it adds, have received attention for their nutritional benefits and support of the beauty from within concept.

“Turmeric has always been a hero in the story of skin health, but with TurmXTRA™ glow, we’ve given it a scientific and clinically validated voice,” stated Shah. “This study is an affirmation of our belief that modern delivery technologies can unlock ancient wisdom in new ways. The clinically proven benefits in hydration, glow, and even tone—delivered through a low 250 mg daily dose—redefine what’s possible for turmeric in beauty-from-within.”

Dr. Thanawala also noted that this study is the first of its kind to show the skin health benefits of a turmeric extract.

TurmXtra for joint support

In March 2025, Nutriventia released results from a placebo-controlled clinical trial on TurmXTRA 60N for knee mobility.2 This study involved 139 participants ages 45-75 years with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis (OA). The patients received either 250 mg capsule daily or placebo three months. Assessments were conducted at baseline and at 90 days. Pain reduction was seen in the supplement group starting in seven days, knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome scores were higher in the supplement group, and inflammatory biomarkers were reduced in the supplement group.
