Mixing equipment specialist Charles Ross & Son Co. (Hauppauge, NY) recently released a customized version of its multi-shaft mixer. The 150-gallon Triple Shaft Mixer, the Ross VersaMix Model VMC-150, features elaborate automation and safety functions.

The company added six pneumatic clamps rated 4000-lb each, which are used to remotely lock the mix vessel on the mixer cover, designed for 29.5-inch Hg vacuum and 5 psi internal pressure. These clamps also serve as redundant limit switches that allow for operation of the vessel only when it is secured. Other mixer features include automated valves for powder feed and CIP liquids, RTD multi-point temperature sensor, built-in vacuum pump assembly, load cell system, and centralized HMI.

Ross Triple Shaft Mixers feature three independently driven agitators, including a high-speed, saw-tooth dispersing blade for quick product wet out, a three-wing anchor for efficient transport of viscous product throughout the mixing zone, plus a third shaft, a high-shear rotor/stator homogenizer designed for emulsification.
