Protein company Perfect Day has introduced its first consumer product, a limited-edition ice cream featuring the company’s proprietary, fermentation-derived, animal-free protein.

The company says it has been working since 2014 on developing and scaling its method of producing protein using fermentation of microflora. The protein is said to contain the same casein and whey proteins found in cow’s milk, except that it is not produced using cows and is vegan, lactose-free, and hormone-free.

Says the company in a press release: “Perfect Day’s proteins-created through a fermentation process similar to the manufacture of vitamins and amino acids-are identical to the proteins found in cow’s milk, imparting to food products the nutrition, texture, and delicious taste of conventional dairy. Founded by ‘Forbes 30 Under 30’ honorees Ryan Pandya and Perumal Gandhi, Perfect Day sees the future of the industry as a bright one and plans to work with companies large and small around the world that can create delicious food products using this protein.”

By launching this ice cream, the company says it is introducing its protein source to the market and to potential collaborators. “What we’re doing here is completely new to the world,” said Ryan Pandya, CEO and cofounder of Perfect Day, in the press release. “We wanted our first debut to be under the care of our own brand so that we could demonstrate the consumer benefits inherent to our protein, while starting a conversation about this new approach to making food.”

The limited-edition ice cream is being offered through the company’s website, www.perfectdayfoods.com, in flavors of Milky Chocolate, Vanilla Salted Fudge, and Vanilla Blackberry Toffee.
