Microtest Laboratories has posted a free white paper on dietary supplement good manufacturing practices.
Testing services and contract manufacturing firm Microtest Laboratories (Agawam, MA) has posted a free white paper on dietary supplement good manufacturing practices titled “Dietary Supplements: A New Paradigm for Manufacturers.”
Among other points, the white paper covers developing a quality-management system and microbiological testing per the USP Dietary Supplement Compendium.
Additionally, the firm suggests that small and medium-sized manufacturers might want to outsource testing. “The challenges for small and medium-sized manufacturers are these: testing dietary supplements and determining compliance requires the personnel and facilities to handle large-scale testing programs,” stated Steven G. Richter, PhD, RAC, SM, president and chief science officer for the company, who also wrote the white paper. “The ability to train and retain these employees may be a challenge…Given all this, for many small and medium-sized manufacturers, outsourcing the majority of their testing may make most economical sense.”
