Supporting Metabolic Health Via the Gut: Interview with Saanroo at SupplySide Connect NJ 2026

Jennifer Chase, director of business development for Saanroo, sat down with Nutritional Outlook at SupplySide Connect NJ to highlight the findings of recently published research demonstrating the metabolic health benefits of its Trpti OEA.

A recently published 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 57 participants demonstrated that Trpti OEA significantly benefited metabolic health via the gut. The study found that the ingredient primes the microbiome and strengthens the gut barrier, leading to increased levels of beneficial Akkermansia muciniphila and a reduction in inflammatory markers. Notably, participants experienced an average weight loss of 3.5 pounds without changes to diet or exercise, suggesting a systemic benefit derived from improved gut lining integrity. In this interview, Jennifer Chase, director of business development for Saanroo, sat down with Nutritional Outlook at SupplySide Connect NJ to highlight these findings, and the potential they demonstrate for product development.

Sebastian Krawiec: So, it's my understanding that there is a new published study demonstrating the impacts of Trpti OEA on metabolic health. Obviously, metabolic health is a kind of a broad term, but I wonder if you can kind of describe the design of the study and what the results showed.

Jennifer Chase: Well, first, just to give a little bit of background, Trpti itself is Sanskrit for satiety, satisfaction, and contentment, which I think is a really nice, all encompassing, good name for it. so in our study design, it was a recently published study. I'm really excited about it. Um, it was done as a double blind, placebo controlled, randomized clinical trial. It was over twelve weeks with fifty seven people. and what it was, was to see how Trpti could actually affect gut environment and metabolic markers. And so what we saw a quick summary is that it did that trippy helped rebuild the gut environment itself, which was pretty exciting for our first real study on the product.

SK: Oh, so the main pathway was via the gut microbiome. Yes. Oh very interesting.

JC: What we did see was that it increased the Akkermansia muciniphila levels in the gut. And why that was exciting to me is that it's really hard to see those levels rise, even if you supplement it directly with the Akkermansia as a probiotic. Um, it's, it's, it's really difficult unless you have the right gut environment for those, for those levels to actually rise. It's kind of like if you had a garden, you know, you buy the best quality seeds possible, but you put it in crap dirt and poor quality dirt. Um, those, those seeds are obviously just going to die. They're not going to do much. So what we're doing with the Trpti itself is that it's actually priming the gut microbiome to create the right conditions to allow those beneficial bacteria to thrive. So is this almost like a prebiotic benefit or is it? I almost could call it like a prebiotic, because it's almost even more interesting because it's not directly feeding. It's not directly feeding the gut. The gut bacteria. What it's doing is it's creating a stronger gut bacteria, stronger gut barrier. It's actually making a better lining of the gut so that now the Akkermansia can basically do its thing. We also saw an increase in Occludin and a reduction in inflammatory markers, which is also key for Akkermansia to improve. And then naturally, the result is the most exciting is that over those twelve weeks, people lost an average of three and a half pounds without asking for any change in diet or exercise. That was just. It's almost like a happy result by having a healthier gut bacteria.

SK: So obviously it's not necessarily a probiotic benefit. It sort of helps the gut lining. But I wonder, does this kind of like point to a potential complementary ingredients in terms of digestive health ingredients that can be paired with Trpti?

JC: Absolutely. Yeah. this is a great ingredient that if you were to combine it with, I would love to see a product with a really good probiotic or a secondary prebiotic to add as a complementary effect. And you could really make a unique novel product. I mean, Trpti itself is, is a very brand new ingredient and what makes it unique from a standard OEA, a oleoylethanolamide, is that we have our lipospheres delivery technology. And what that's doing is it's both protecting the OEA but also improving its absorption as it passes through the gut. So it's really allowing it to both last and work do what it's supposed to do, really, because I always believe that the most expensive supplement is the one that doesn't work. And if you take something like a probiotic and it just dies, you know, you're just throwing money away and not doing what you hope it will do.
