The fruit of the carambola tree, also known as star fruit, is used in traditional medicine throughout Asia. In Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan, for example, the fruit is used to treat sore throats, while in Ayurveda, it is used to aid digestion. In traditional Chinese medicine, the root of the carambola tree is used to treat diabetes.
