Pharmachem (Kearny, NJ) has obtained exclusive distribution rights for the dietary supplements market for Teavigo, a green tea extract.
Developed by DSM Nutritional Products (Parsippany, NJ), Teavigo is extracted using a proprietary process said to ensure a potent and pure extract. Thanks to this process, Teavigo offers a minimum of 90% epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG). The ingredient has generally recognized as safe status and is caffeine free and water soluble.
“Teavigo is a high-potency green tea extract with excellent application potential for nutritional supplements, as well as functional foods and beverages,” says Mitch Skop, Pharmachem’s senior director of new product development.
The company says scientists believe that the catechins in green tea, and primarily EGCG, contain powerful antioxidants. Studies have also shown that the EGCG in green tea enhance metabolism and increases fat oxidation, aiding in weight management.
“We were impressed with the number and quality of safety and clinical studies that have been conducted on Teavigo,” Skop said.“In the last few years, several studies published in prestigious journals, including the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, have concluded that EGCG significantly decreased resting heart rate and reduced plasma glucose in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance; has the potential to increase fat oxidation in men; may contribute to the anti-obesity effects of green tea; acutely improves endothelial function in humans with coronary artery disease; and has a nice effect on oral health and halitosis.”
As a result of the numerous clinical studies showing efficacy and safety, several structure/function claims are permitted for Teavigo product labeling:
· Boosts your body’s energy
· Enhances metabolism/enhances the body’s metabolism
· Enhance metabolism and help to manage weight
· Supports endothelial function
· Supports heart health
· Supports cardiovascular health
