New Scientific Advisory Board announced for mitochondrial health education and integrative care

Kaneka Ubiquinol formed a new Scientific Advisory Board panel to help further mitochondrial health education.

In a recent press release, Kaneka Ubiquinol discussed the creation of their new Scientific Advisory Board which will work on furthering mitochondrial health and consist of experts interested in moving forward clinical understanding on this topic and the science behind it. The board’s core mission is “to support evidence-based approaches to preventive and integrative healthcare, foster translational research and strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration focused on sub-cellular health.”

The Scientific Advisory Board is chaired by Dr. Ross Walker who is an advocate for preventative health and a well-respected integrative cardiologist. Other members on the board will include expertise and knowledge in areas such as genetics, cardiology, naturopathy, complementary medicine, integrative medicine, reproductive health, mitochondrial function, nutrition, and pharmacy.

“Mitochondrial health supports the full lifecycle of wellbeing - from pre-conception to the first 1,000 days of life to healthy aging,” said Dr. Walker in the press release. “Its central role in cellular energy and resilience is precisely why the formation of this Board is so important. It reflects a growing recognition of mitochondrial function as a cornerstone of health span and lifespan.”

In the press release, some of the board members will include:

  • Ross Walker, MD – Leading integrative cardiologist and preventative health advocate
  • Professor Alan Bensoussan – Founding director, NICM Health Research Institute and pioneer in evidence-based complementary medicine research across APAC
  • Leah Hechtman, PhD – Specialist in reproductive medicine, fertility, and women’s health
  • Denise Furness, PhD – Functional geneticist and nutritionist, expert in personalized health and nutrigenomics
  • Gerald Quigley – Pharmacist and master herbalist focused on integrative patient care and education
  • Bobby Mehta – Award-winning pharmacist and educator with a focus on practitioner engagement and clinical education.

“We are honored to welcome this distinguished board,” said Tsuyoshi Takakuwa, head of marketing and sales (APAC), supplemental nutrition business division, Kaneka Corporation, Japan. “This marks the beginning of a platform for open dialogue - a place where we can exchange ideas, explore new opportunities, and shape the future of health and wellness together. At Kaneka Ubiquinol, our vision is clear: to be the trusted leader in mitochondrial health and cellular energy. Not only through scientific innovation, but through the meaningful, real-world impact we are making on people’s wellbeing.”

The board was announced during Kaneka Ubiquinol’s meeting which took place earlier in July 2025. During the meeting, Kazuki Takita, Oceania & Asia Marketing & Sales Team, Supplement Business Group, Supplement Strategic Unit, discussed Ubiquinol’s position in the marketplace, as well as the creation of the new board. Kaneka Ubiquinol is the global supplier for Ubiquinol, which is a potent lipid-soluble antioxidant supplement that may help with mitochondrial function.

“Beyond delivering advanced technology, our globally patented precision yeast fermentation process reflects Kaneka’s deep commitment to sustainability,” commented Takita. “By operating without high temperatures or pressure, it significantly reduces energy consumption and environmental impact - enabling the eco-friendly production of bioidentical Ubiquinol. The result is a premium, clinically proven ingredient with exceptional purity and efficacy.”

The Mitochondrial Health Scientific Advisory Board will work to make mitochondrial health an important part of healthy aging and long-term vitality.
