Kemin to Pair FloraGLO Lutein Milestone With Gut Health and Satiety Ingredients at SupplySide Global

The company says it will center on positive aging, with a focus on lutein research beyond vision, the Gutopia platform, and Slendesta for the GLP-1 market.

Kemin Industries says it will return to SupplySide Global with a “positive aging” theme, featuring lutein, gut health, and satiety ingredients at booth 6073.1 The privately held ingredient manufacturer, founded in 1961, announced its plans October 14.

What Is Kemin Planning to Show?

Kemin says its booth will explore how nutrition can help people live “not only longer, but better.” The showcase is organized around three areas: lutein research extending beyond vision, the company’s Gutopia gut-health platform, and ingredients intended to support the GLP-1 experience.

What Does Kemin Say About FloraGLO Lutein?

Kemin is marking three decades of FloraGLO Lutein, which the company calls the first and most thoroughly studied lutein brand, with more than 130 human clinical studies behind it. According to Kemin, that body of research has identified lutein and zeaxanthin as important carotenoids across the lifespan, and points to benefits beyond eye health, such as cognitive function and skin health.

The release states that the general population consumes just 1 to 3 mg of lutein per day on average, below levels research has shown to be beneficial. Booth visitors can take an interactive eye test that returns a personalized FloraGLO EyeQ score.

Which Gut Health and GLP-1 Ingredients Will Be Featured?

Kemin’s Gutopia lineup features BetaVia, a postbiotic made from algae-derived beta glucan and aimed at gut and immune health, along with ButiShield, an encapsulated form of butyric acid intended to support digestive wellness. Kemin experts will be on hand to discuss how these approaches could support health across the aging process.

For weight management, Kemin will highlight Slendesta, a potato-derived satiety ingredient. The company says it acts on the gut-brain axis, boosting the release of a gut hormone that slows gastric emptying and sends a fullness signal to the brain. The company says the ingredient could be used alongside GLP-1 therapies, to help sustain satiety when people stop taking them, or as a non-medical choice for those seeking appetite support.

The release Kemin cites a 2024 Hims & Hers survey of 5,000 U.S. adults in which 59% agreed or somewhat agreed that their entire lives would improve if they lost weight, and 37% said living longer would be a benefit.1,2

Filipa Quintela, associate director of marketing at Kemin Nutrition & Health, further described the company’s SupplySide offering. “Positive aging is about helping people get more from the years they live – and nutrition has an important role to play,” Quintela explained. “Nature gives us an extraordinary starting point, but scientific discovery helps us understand how its potential can be harnessed for health. Kemin’s 30-year journey with FloraGLO is a powerful example of this, showing how one area of discovery can open the door to new possibilities across the lifespan. Our offering at this year’s SupplySide Global is a celebration of being curious, following the science, and asking what might be possible to help our customers bring to life solutions which can transform people's lives.”

What Else Has Kemin Announced This Year?

Nutritional Outlook reported in July that Kemin Food Technologies planned to show clean label reformulation ingredients at IFT FIRST, positioning enzyme- and fermentate-based products as options for manufacturers facing consumer demand for simpler labels and FDA reassessment of synthetic preservatives.3

The bakery lineup included an enzyme blend positioned as a replacement for DATEM and monoglycerides, an enzyme and gum blend for corn tortillas, and a clean label alternative to calcium propionate. For meat and poultry, Kemin highlighted a fermentate and buffered vinegar blend for mold control in meat sticks and jerky, and a rosemary extract positioned as an alternative to tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ).

The article advised manufacturers evaluating replacements to request category-specific performance data and shelf-life testing, since results in one food category may not carry over to another.
