Teafense is a new green tea extract that also offers the benefits of nonpungent capsicum. The ingredient is said to be a full-spectrum extract, providing green tea’s antioxidant polyphenols, including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin (EC) epicatechin gallate (ECg), catechin (C), and gallocatechine (GC). The company says laboratory tests have shown that, thanks to its synergistic properties, Teafense delivers 10 times more cell-protection activity than green tea extract alone, and 100 times greater activity than EGCg alone.
The company says that many green tea manufacturers may focus only on extracting EGCg and pushing levels of EGCg to levels about 90%, with the thought that increasing EGCg content thereby improves green tea’s effectiveness. “Unfortunately, enhancing above-normal levels of a single catechin is not natural and may lead to undesirable and sometimes toxic effects,” the company says. Teafense is standardized to include no less than 40% natural EGCg. Stratum Nutrition (St. Charles, MO), 888/403-5039, www.stratumnutrition.com.
