Mango-derived extract shows positive impact on cognition and mood in recent study

Standardized to mangiferin, Stadice by Zeus Hygia was tested for memory, attention, and stress management effects among video gamers.

Recent research examined the effects and safety of a proprietary Mangifera indica (mango) extract on cognition in e-sports gamers. As noted in the study’s introduction, engaging in e-sports is mentally challenging activity, requiring various cognitive functions, while excessive participation in e-sports as well as television, phone, or computer use can negatively impact cognition and mood. The clinical study1, “Assessment of Efficacy and Safety of Mangifera indica Extract (Stadice®) for Cognitive Function: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study,” was published in Cureus in July 2024.

The proprietary extract Stadice by Zeus Hygia, standardized to mangiferin, was used in this study. To assess various aspects of cognition, 60 healthy male and female participants ages 18–45, all regular e-sports gamers, consumed a daily capsule of 300 mg of Stadice, or a placebo, for seven days. Changes in cognitive ability were measured at baseline and on day seven using parts of the NIMHANS Neuropsychological Battery and Auditory tests. Also measured were psychological stress response, namely anxiety, mood, subjective working memory, and cortisol levels.

Highlighted results included:

  • Improvements in the test group for mental speed, attention, working memory, response inhibition, and verbal learning and memory
  • Participants in the test group were able to better manage stress, including anxiety or nervousness and irritability or mood swings, compared to the placebo group.

No safety concerns were found, and no adverse effects were reported during the study.

The researchers stated that further studies would be necessary to explore the other uses, relevance, and mechanisms of the extract. “These promising results highlight Stadice as a prospective tool in the realm of cognitive enhancement research, offering valuable insights into its efficacy and safety within specialized contexts such as e-sports,” the researchers concluded.

“The cognitive performance and brain health category is an energetic market performer and is set to reach approximately $12.9 billion in sales by 2028,” stated Krishnakumar, PhD, MBA, co-founder and director of Zeus Hygia Lifesciences in a June 16, 2025, press release. “For the first time, young adults are more interested in supporting brain health than older adults. Market research finds that those between 18–25 (27.3%) are more likely to consume cognitive-support supplements than those aged 26–49 (23.7%) and 50-plus (13.5%). Stadice can also be explored as a pre-workout supplement which can help active gym enthusiasts or novices stay focused, energized and motivated.”
