LycoRed Expands Carmine Color Replacements

Article

New tomato-based colors mimic the red and blue shades of carmine in a vegetarian format.

LycoRed Ltd. (Beer Sheva, Israel) says it is offering more natural red colorants from tomato lycopene. The new color solutions can replace carmine in food and beverage products, as they are made to impart the insect source’s “deeper reds” and “blue backgrounds.”

The company’s new reds possess stability improvements, too. Manufacturers can incorporate them into products with a wide variety of pH levels and light exposure, and even at high temperatures.

LycoRed’s new red colorants are available in liquid form. They are suitable for a variety of food, beverage, and confectionery applications. The company will showcase its newest solutions at Chicago’s IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo in July, booth #3167.
