HTBA disclosed that the company had invested further in their diosmin production with a new manufacturing plant.

HealthTech Bio Actives (HTBA) announced in a recent press release the new construction of a diosmin production plant which will be located at their research, development, and manufacturing center in Murcia, Spain. The new production plant brings an investment of more than six million euros. With the new facility, HTBA will be able to increase their diosmin production capacity by more than 40%. Through the increase of production, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers will be able to create future innovations with the ingredient.

Diosmin is known for its potential to help with vacular discomfort, circulation, and venous tone. According to the emailed press release, HTBA is the world’s largest producer of the ingredient and manufactures it as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to be used in the treatment for chronic cardiovascular disease (CVD), hemorrhoids, spider veins, amd varicose veins. Additionally, diosmin is utilized as a food supplement ingredient called DiosVein.

“This latest investment further reinforces HTBA’s standing as an international leader in the production of flavonoids, supporting innovation in the health and wellness sector,” comments Alexandre Valls-Coma, Chief Executive Officer at HTBA. “By prioritizing innovation and sustainable manufacturing, over the last few years the company has entered a period of remarkable growth. This project further strengthens our expansion and competitiveness in a highly regulated and demanding global environment.”

HTBA participates in zero-waste sustainability through the utilization of solvent-free manufacturing for their diosmin ingredient. The press release mentioned that it “yields no remaining organic solvents and ensures compliance with the highest quality standards,” and is the only company using water as a solvent. With this option, HTBA was granted the Zero Waste certification by AENOR, which verifies that HTBA valorizes at least 90% of the waste it generates.

“We’re always striving to achieve better solutions and processes that improve manufacturing sustainability and efficiency while helping to support health and wellbeing,” explains Ignacio Paco Ferreira, Chief Operations Officer at HTBA. “Our new plant will not only increase production, it will also equip us to improve our operating model through research-driven process innovation, digitalisation, and energy efficiency. With improved and expanded production, we’re gearing up to better meet customer and consumer needs for the long-term, offering consistent, reliable supply as a trusted source of high-quality diosmin for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications.”

Earlier during the year, HTBA disclosed a prior 25-million-euro investment project involving the completion of their research, development, and manufacturing center located in Spain. The new state-of-the-art production plant, establishes HTBA as “the only company in Europe capable of producing all active forms of vitamin B12.”
