Applied Food Sciences (AFS; Austin, TX) debuted an organic plant-based protein extract from green coffee beans called CoffeeProtein. The whole-food protein contains 30% protein while also providing phytonutrients, antioxidants, and fiber. In addition to this, the green coffee bean protein has a quality sensory profile, providing it an advantage over some other plant-based protein sources, as well as a smooth texture and mixability that allows it to be incorporated into a wide range of applications such as ready to drink beverages.
Because AFS is vertically integrated, the company is involved with every step of the sourcing process. The firm, therefore, sources the coffee for the ingredient with a focus on environmental stewardship, economic accountability, and social responsibility. An allergen-free ingredient, CoffeeProtein is free from gluten, lactose, eggs, nuts, and soy.
