Turmipure Gold, a branded turmeric extract from Naturex (Avignon, France), is now self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe). In December 2019, a GRAS expert panel convened to evaluate the available data and concluded that the extract was safe under the conditions of intended use in a wide range of food applications, including beverage, beverage bases, confectionery products, dairy, and dairy analogs at both intuitive and effective doses. An effective dose of 300 mg of Turmipure Gold can be incorporated into a single functional 2 oz shot drink. According to a press release, 300 mg of the standardized turmeric extract delivers the same about of curcuminoids to the blood as 1922 mg of standard turmeric.
“We are very pleased to receive the GRAS designation, allowing us to bring the benefits of Turmipure Gold to the US food and beverage industry,” said Alexis Manfré, global product manager for Turmipure Gold at Naturex, in a press release. “We’re looking forward to partnering with our customers to create exciting new products as the possibilities are truly limitless!”
Turmipure Gold is available in organic certified grade, provides instant water-dispersibility, a low effective dose, neutral taste, and an appealing color. The ingredient has also demonstrated stability of curcuminoids to heat and light, including in beverages.
