Valensa International (Eustis, FL) and Parry Nutraceuticals (Chennai, India) have introduced a new, coated spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) called Pur-Blue. The ingredient features an all-natural phycocyanin-extract coating that masks the algae’s flavor, making the ingredient suited to a wider range of products.

The ingredient also boasts a brilliant blue color “that can help differentiate it from other spirulinas on the market,” the companies say.

The ingredient is part of Parry’s certified-organic spirulina line, which the companies say has been tested to show benefits such as higher carotenoid content compared to Hawaiian Spirulina.
