A new product combining probiotics and organic spirulina will be unveiled at the Natural Products Expo West trade show in Anaheim, CA, in March.
Called Probiogreen, the product combines UAS Laboratories’ (Eden Prairie, MN) DDS probiotics with Valensa and Parry Nutraceuticals’ organic spirulina. UAS Laboratories says tests show that spirulina can help stimulate the growth of Lactobacillus bacteria.
Probiogreen will be offered as a finished product or as a raw material that can be added to food or supplements, including powders, smoothie mixes, beverages, and supplements.
The companies recommend a dosage of 500 mg of DDS probiotics (5 billion CFU/g) and 500 mg of spirulina-a dose that is provided in ¼ tsp of Probiogreen. By contrast, the companies say, many green-formula products amount to as much as 4 tsp of ingredients.
According to the companies, Probiogreen showed promising results in a recent clinical study on patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Spirulina, a microscopic aquatic organism, is a “green food” that contains more than 60% protein. It has been combined with phytonutrients such as phycocyanin, carotenes, xanthophylls, GLA, essential fatty acids, vitamin B12, chlorophyll, and minerals, and has shown promise for health conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular disease.
