Israel-based nutritional supplements brand Anlit Advanced Nutrition has launched a new probiotic supplement for children meant to help prevent common ear infections and sore throat. The supplement features BLIS K12, a probiotic strain from Frutarom Ltd. (North Bergen, NJ).

According to the companies, BLIS K12 is the world’s first probiotic that targets sore throats and otits media (ear infections). The probiotic acts against bacterial imbalance in the mouth, fighting bacteria that cause sore throats, ear infections, colds, and bad breath.

The companies say that one large study showed that children with BLIS K12-like S. salivarius bacteria naturally had 50% fewer episodes of strep throat. Another second in vitro study on BLIS K12 showed activity against oto-respiratory infection pathogens that frequently cause ear infections in children.

The new Anlit supplement takes the form of vanilla-flavored chewable BLIS K12 bears that are sweetened with Xylitol, a natural sugar substitute. The recommended dose is one supplement per day, which provides 17 to 20 mg of BLIS K12.
