DMI (Wharton, NJ ), a contract manufacturer, filler, and packager of cosmetics, personal care products, health and beauty aids, nutritional products, and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, has announced the appointment of Lori Piccione to the position of marketing executive. Piccione has a background in contract manufacturing for bath and body products and will be responsible for expanding DMI's cosmetic and skin care product sales.

Tate & Lyle (London) announced that it will appoint Javed Ahmed its chief executive by November of this year. Iain Ferguson, current chief executive, will continue in that role until Ahmed's arrival.

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN; Washington, DC) issued the following statement regarding the confirmation of Margaret Hamburg, MD, to the post of FDA commissioner. "Though Hamburg openly acknowledged during her Senate confirmation hearings that she has not been deeply involved with dietary supplement issues in the past, we look forward to the opportunity to work with Hamburg to educate her on the dietary supplement industry and the appropriate role that dietary supplements play in an overall healthy lifestyle. CRN further looks forward to working with Hamburg to restore consumer confidence in the agency. The more than 150 million Americans who use dietary supplements each year need to have confidence in the agency that enforces the regulations and laws by which these products are made."

Advana Science (Kirkland, WA) announced that Mark A. Smith, PhD, a leading researcher of Alzheimer's disease, has been named scientific adviser to the company. According to the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Smith was ranked third in the world among the top 100 Alzheimer's disease investigators in March 2009. Smith brings 20 years of research experience focused on investigating the pathological mechanisms underlying selective neuronal death related to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. Smith has been a professor at Case Western Reserve University since 1992. Smith also serves as the director of Basic Science Research at the university's Memory and Cognition Center, and acts as the executive director of the American Aging Association.

Denomega Nutritional Oils (Boulder, CO) has announced the appointment of Harald Ronneberg to managing director. Ronneberg has recently joined Denomega after four years as managing director of LignoTech South Africa. Previous to his time in South Africa, Ronneberg was CEO of Borregaard's (Sarpsborg, Norway) chemical operations in the United States.
