Parabel USA Inc. (Vero Beach, FL) has finalized a distribution agreement with CK Ingredients (Oakville, ON, Canada), a raw materials supplier, for the commercialization of Parabel’s branded Lentein plant protein in the Canadian marketplace. “CK are the perfect match for us,” said Habbo de Vaera, vice president of global sales for Parabel, in a press release. “They are established in Canada where Lentein just received full regulatory approval and they serve the industries Parabel is operating in.”
Lentein is a plant-based protein derived from water lentil, Lemnoideae, which the company says has the highest level of essential amino acids of any plant-protein. It is also non-GMO, free of major allergens, and sourced sustainably through a hydroponic system. Parabel recently announced the construction of a second facility, estimated to be up and running by June of 2019, and said to produce up to 3,500 tons of protein each year.
“Parabel’s innovative Lentein plant protein perfectly complements our existing raw material portfolio,” said Michael Chernyak, president of CK Ingredients, in a press release. “In today’s marketplace, novel plant protein sources are experiencing strong demand and our clients are always looking for ways to differentiate themselves on-shelf and online.”
