Ingredion (Westchester, IL) has added an organic version of its pea protein isolate to its line of plant-based flours, concentrates, and isolates. The company introduced the organic Vitessence Pulse 1803 organic pea protein isolate at this week’s Natural Products Expo West trade show. The ingredient is certified USDA Organic by QAI.
Vitessence Pulse 1803 organic pea protein isolate is suited for nutrition and sports bars, alternative meat and dairy applications, powdered and ready-to-drink beverages, baked goods, and more. The ingredient is said to offer formulators excellent solubility, emulsification, and water- and oil-holding capacity, as well as a creamy texture and pleasing flavor that is low in “raw and green notes” compared to other plant-based alternatives. It contains a minimum protein content of 80%, suitable for “excellent source of protein” claims.
The launch of Vitessence Pulse 1803 organic pea protein isolate follows Ingredion’s December 2018 announcement that it is investing $140 million to expand its capacity to supply plant-based proteins, particularly at its two sites in North America.
At Expo West, Ingredion sampled the new organic ingredient in a plant-based chocolate protein pudding.
