Lustriva is a combination of bonded arginine silicate and magnesium biotinate that the company says increases biotin solubility 40 times more than D-biotin, an ingredient commonly used in beauty products.
Nutrition21 (Saddle Brook, NJ) announced that its Lustriva beauty-from-within ingredient has been self-affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for food and beverages. Lustriva is a combination of bonded arginine silicate and magnesium biotinate that the company says increases biotin solubility 40 times more than D-biotin, an ingredient commonly used in beauty products.
“Lustriva was granted self-affirmed GRAS status after submitting a comprehensive dossier of information regarding proposed uses, estimated consumer intakes, chemistry, specifications, and a comprehensive review of its safety information,” the company’s press release states.
Clinical studies show Lustriva can enhance existing hair growth and density, improve skin elasticity, reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines, and improve overall appearance, the firm adds. It can be included in dietary supplements, functional foods, and ready-to-drink beverages at a dose of 160 mg.
“The highly bioavailable forms of silicon, biotin, and arginine can only be found in this product,” added Katie Emerson, MS, RD, LDN, manager of scientific affairs for Nutrition21, in the press release. “We are excited that Lustriva has achieved self-affirmed GRAS status because it opens up so many new product application possibilities.”
