The Natural Products Association (NPA; Washington, DC) has hired former Washington, DC, insider John Spitaleri Shaw as its new executive director and CEO. Shaw replaces former executive director and CEO John Gay, who held the position since 2010.

Shaw’s previous served as assistant secretary for environment, safety, and health at the Department of Energy; senior vice president of government affairs for the Portland Cement Association; and an attorney with the law firm Patton Boggs, LLP. He will attend this week’s NPA MarketPlace event in Las Vegas.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity because the global demand for natural has never been stronger,” said Shaw. “American and people worldwide are switching to truly natural products for their daily needs like never before, so this is an exceptional time both for the industry but also for the cultural change underway. My top priority will be to promote and defend the amazing benefits and improvements to our quality of life that natural products can provide.”
