Capsugel’s portfolio of plant-based capsules suits today’s growing number of “green” consumers. Capsugel’s line of plant-based capsules, exhibited in booth #27011, would appeal to 35% of U.S. supplement users who say vegetarian is key to choosing a supplement, according to The Natural Marketing Institute’s Supplement/OTC/Rx Database (SORD) Overview, November 2011. The latest addition is Plantcaps, a pullulan capsule naturally fermented from tapioca. This more natural alternative offers the best oxygen barrier, masking pungent odors and protecting sensitive ingredients. Other capsule offerings include Vcaps, the world’s bestselling HPMC capsule, for moisture-sensitive ingredients like hygroscopic fills and dry herbal products; Vcaps Plus, which provides the same benefit with enhancements like color choices and quick gelatin-like dissolution (100% in 30 min or less); and the slow-dissolving, acid-resistant HPMC DRcaps, which protect ingredients for at least 30 min in the stomach’s pH of 1.2, fully opening at an intestinal pH of 6.8, without costly enteric coatings-ideal for probiotics and enzymes.
