Martek Biosciences Corp. (Columbia, MD) is restructuring its Winchester, KY, facility to improve capacity and reduce manufacturing and operating costs. The company will also reduce its workforce and transfer certain manufacturing and distribution processes to the company’s Kingstree, SC, site. The company says it is looking to offset price reductions stemming from the company’s current infant-formula contracts, such as with Mead Johnson.

Regarding Mead Johnson, Martek has extended its sole-supplier agreement with the company for docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA). Under the agreement, Martek will remain Mead Johnson’s sole supplier of DHA and ARA for all Mead Johnson infant-formula products through December 2015.
