How Nutrasource went from diagnostic testing to full service regulatory and clinical trial services

In this interview, Joshua Baisley, SGS Nutrasource’s senior vice president of clinical operations, shares the evolution of the company from diagnostic testing to ingredient testing for omega-3s, certifications, and research consulting, highlighting the importance of consumer feedback and recent industry trends.

Sebastian Krawiec: Hi everyone. I'm Sebastian Krawiec, managing editor of Nutritional Outlook. I am joined today by Joshua Baisley, who is the senior vice president of clinical operations at SGS Nutrasource, which is being recognized as this year's Best of the Industry, Service Provider by Nutritional Outlook. Thank you so much for joining us today, Josh and congratulations.

Joshua Baisley: Thanks for having me today. We're very honored to be receiving this award, being recognized as one of the top service providers in our industry. It's been a long road to this point, and it really is a testament to the work that we're doing and the people that we have and the knowledge that they have.

Sebastian Krawiec: Well, I wonder if we could start kind of talking about yourself. I wonder if you can tell me a little about your history with Nutrasource, and what your current role at the company is?

Joshua Baisley: Sure. So senior vice president of clinical operations pretty much sums it up. I am overseeing the entire clinical operations here at SGS Nutrasource. I've been with the company now for 12 years, in the dietary supplement industry for 21. Over that time, I've done everything from pre-clinical lab management, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, clinical ops. I oversee here, both the CRO which is the clinical research organization, the group that oversees the trial – designs them, oversees a data capture, data management, all of that through Analysis and Reporting – as well as our clinical trial site, where we place some of our trials, but not all of our trials. So that's another group that kind of runs a little bit independently, and also does work with pharma, not just through our CRO and the quality assurance unit here at SGS Nutrasource, and they cover all aspects of the company, the QA group.
