The MicroSure Plus heat treatment method is a 5-log kill process that is designed to ensure flaxseed safety for an up to two-year shelf life.
A new heat-treatment process for flaxseed is described by ingredients supplier Glanbia Nutritionals (Fitchburg, WI) as its “most thorough” process available yet. The MicroSure Plus heat treatment method is a 5-log kill process that is designed to ensure flaxseed safety for an up to two-year shelf life. (A method’s effectiveness of destroying pathogens is usually expressed in terms of “log kill,” with a 5-log kill indicating 99.999% pathogen destruction.)
Glanbia says MicroSure Plus has been validated by an independent third party. The company developed the process specifically for its ChoiceGrad MP and SelectGrad MP flaxseed ingredients, which are high in ALA omega-3, dietary fiber, lignans, and protein. (ChoiceGrad is ideal for use as at topping or crunchy texture for bakery, nutrition bar, and cereal products, while SelectGrad is a milled flaxseed that provides a slightly nutty flavor and ALA omega-3 fortification for a variety of food applications.)
Glanbia also says MicroSure Plus does not compromise the product quality or nutritional value of flaxseeds, maintaining superior flavor, color, health profile, and stability.
