For Fonterra, it’s the first step in growing its European ingredient source, in order to meet demand from the European market.
Dairy ingredients supplier Fonterra (Auckland, New Zealand) is partnering with UK-based dairy co-op First Milk to produce whey proteins for Fonterra’s food business. For Fonterra, it’s the first step in growing its European ingredient source, in order to meet demand from the European market.
First Milk will also benefit from the partnership, which will expand its expertise into specialty whey ingredients. “While this is our first step into added-value whey markets, it builds on the work we have done recently with a range of partners across the supply chain to deliver pioneering solutions,” stated First Milk’s chief executive Kate Allum. “It is also important that we explore opportunities, such as this one with Fonterra, that have the potential to deliver enhanced returns for our dairy farmers.”
The premium whey proteins from First Milk Lake District creamery, located in Cumbria, England, will be used in Fonterra’s nutritional ingredients such as PowerProtein and ElevateProtein, based on whey protein 80% ingredients.
