FMC inherits an established omega-3 fish oils business.
FMC Corp. (Philadelphia) has acquired EPAX AS (Oslo, Norway) for $345 million. The acquisition of an omega-3 EPA and DHA supplier will bolster FMC’s business in food and nutraceutical ingredients, which also includes functional ingredients such as cellulose, pectin, and carrageenan.
By acquiring EPAX, FMC inherits the Norwegian company’s fish oil production facilities in Alesund, Norway and Seal Sands, UK. As part of the financial agreement, EPAX will continue to supply highly concentrated fish oils to its former owner, Trygg Pharma Group AS.

Meta-analysis does not find increased risk of bleeding events from omega-3 PUFA consumption

June 25th 2024According to the paper’s author, Stephanie Venn-Watson, DVM, MPH, deficiency in pentadecanoic acid of ≤0.2% total circulating fatty acids increases the risk of ferroptosis, which a type of cell death cause by the peroxidation of fragile fatty acids in cell membranes that combines with iron thus increasing reactive oxygen species, and disabling mitochondria.
