Barley Beta-Glucan Approved for Canada

The approval means that Canadian food and beverage formulators can use the barley beta-glucan to up the fiber content of a variety of products.

Just months after receiving an EU article 14 health claim for cholesterol reduction, Cargill’s (Minneapolis) Barliv barley ingredient has earned novel dietary fiber status from Health Canada. The approval means that Canadian food and beverage formulators can use the barley beta-glucan to up the fiber content of a variety of products.

Cargill says this soluble fiber is invisible when added to foods and beverages.
