Valensa International (Eustis, FL) has announced plans to commercial algae-based ingredients from Algal Scientific Corporation (Plymouth, MI) on the U.S. immune-health market. Algal Scientifics’s PureAlgal branded ingredients-which include whole dried microalgae and purified beta-1, 3-glucan-will be marketed as differentiated algae ingredients and as part of Valensa’s Immunum line of immune-health formulations.

PureAlgal is a golden-yellow powder produced from non-GMO Euglena gracilis microalgae that contains about 50% beta-1, 3-glucan. Algal Scientific also offers PureAlgal Beta-Glucan 95%, which Valensa says is the “highest purity beta-1, 3-glucan available on the market today.” Valensa reports it has already completed promising in vitro pilot studies on both ingredients, and the firm has plans to develop a full-scale clinical trial on human subjects in the first half of 2017. The Algal Scientific ingredients will be incorporated into several of Valensa’s product lines for immune support, including those containing its Parry organic spirulina and Zanthin natural astaxanthin

“Algal Scientific has done a great job in developing a substantial body of science with its Euglena gracilis material in the animal-health field,” says John Minatelli, PhD, senior vice president of business development at Valensa, in a press announcement. “Based on this and our own initial clinical work with the material, we are very excited about the opportunity for developing formulated products under the Immunum product line to offer a range of immune-health products.”

“We are excited to work with the team at Valensa to help bring our unique algae-based ingredients to the human dietary supplement market,” says John Tucker, CEO of Algal Scientific. “We could not envision a better partner.”
