BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany) announced it has become a member of a Personalized Nutrition & Health research consortium founded by university and independent researchers in Europe. The ingredients supplier said it will participate in the consortium’s effort to drive research that will grow the commercial personalized nutrition market.

The Personalized Nutrition & Health consortium was founded by two entities: The Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and Wageningen University & Research, a university and research center based in Germany. As BASF describes, “The consortium takes an integrated approach that involves partners across the value chain working closely together to arrive at tailored, scientifically grounded marketable solutions,” taking into account everything from diagnostics and digital health advice to physical product interventions.

BASF said that its health ingredients brand, Newtrition, “is keen to collaborate on projects that advance research on personalized nutrition and aims to bring science-driven solutions to commercial markets.” It will contribute its expertise about optimizing micronutrient intake for improving health. The Newtrition portfolio includes vitamins, beta-carotenoids, and highly concentrated omega-3 fatty acids.

“This collaboration is a key milestone in our commitment to shape the future with ecosystems that foster the progress of personalized nutrition and health,” said Francois Scheffler, head of BASF Global Human Nutrition, in a press release. “We are passionate about developing innovations that can enable each one of us to reach our full potential with science-based choices underpinned by personal needs.”

Other members of the Personalized Nutrition & Health consortium include supplements brand Vital 10 and dairy supplier FrieslandCampina.
