Eagle Diagnostics announced recently that RedLeaf Biologics ReDaxin ingredient, has become the first ingredient to earn a TruShield certification.

ReDaxin, a novel patented sorghum-based sports nutrition ingredient produced by RedLeaf Biologics, has become the first certified ingredient to earn TruShield Certified. Eagle Diagnostics made the announcement which is a subsidiary for the preferred testing laboratory used for Olympic teams, and other professional sports leagues.

The sports nutrition ingredient underwent a comprehensive banned substance screening that additionally included batch-specific testing. According to the press release, “ReDaxin has successfully met all requirements of the TruShield Certified™ Banned Substance Program, confirming that the ingredient is free from 400+ WADA-prohibited compounds and other high-risk contaminants.” The program utilizes a program that was created via the same laboratory that is trusted by both professional sports leagues and Olympic programs for drug testing, it also has two decades of anti-doping knowledge and banned testing.

RedLeaf Biologics’ ReDaxin, is derived from red sorghum and is a rare extract that is rich in polyphenols. The ingredient has been clinically studied regarding recovery with exercise and may help with active nutrition and sport benefits. ReDaxin is non-GMO and grown in the US which helps support local farming communities.

“ReDaxin represents exactly the kind of the ingredient TruShield Certified™ was designed for – science-driven, rigorously validated, and built for athletes who cannot afford uncertainty,” said Lori Bestervelt, Sr. VP of Certification Services. “We are proud to certify an ingredient that aligns with our mission to protect athletes and elevate the integrity of sports nutrition.”

“Achieving TruShield Certified status is a milestone for ReDaxin and for the athletes and brands who rely on clean, trustworthy performance ingredients,” said Jordan Raphel, Director of Clinical Product Development at RedLeaf Biologics. “We built our U.S. grown ReDaxin for real results, and now it carries the elite level of trust athletes and active nutrition users can feel confident using.”

Study Finds Muscle Strength Recovery with ReDaxin Ingredient

Supplementation with a red sorghum extract can help increase muscle recovery after exercise, according to a recently published peer-reviewed study1. As explained in the study, eccentric muscle actions during training can lead to short-term muscle loss, pain, and soreness. To support the improvement of muscle recovery in these situations, interest in polyphenol supplementation has grown, due to these phytochemicals containing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

How Polyphenols Support Muscle Recovery

A recently identified variation of red sorghum has been demonstrated to contain a high concentration of polyphenols. A bicolor extract derived from this red sorghum, marketed as ReDaxin by RedLeaf Biologics, was tested for anti-inflammatory effects on muscle strength and recovery after eccentric exercise, and to establish a minimum effective dose. This extract, in particular, contains high levels of the polyphenol class 3-deoxyanthocyanidins, which are supposed to support antioxidant levels, immune health, and cellular defense pathways. The recent study testing these effects, “Polyphenol-Rich Sorghum Bicolor Extract Enhances Strength Recovery After Eccentric Exercise,” was published in Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research in August 2025.2

Study results: changes in strength and pain

  • An initial strength loss of 18-25% from baseline was seen after 24 hours, though strength increased in the high dose group from 24-48 hours and in the low dose group from 24-72 hours, while strength in the placebo group remained unchanged during the same time period
  • All groups showed decreases in pain ratings and increases in recovery by 72 hours compared to the 24- and 48-hour time points
  • MT and PPT did not show any changes

“Supplementation with a high- and low-dose polyphenol-rich sorghum bicolor extract increased recovery of muscular strength at faster rates than PL after eccentric exercise but had no meaningful effect on muscle swelling, perceived pain, or recovery,” the researchers concluded.
