Supplements distributor Emerson Ecologics has released a list of red yeast rice brands that have received its Emerson Quality Program (EQP) seal, indicating quality manufacturing.
The approved red yeast rice brands include those from Douglas Laboratories, Protocol for Life Balance, Nordic Naturals, Designs for Health, PhysioLogics, and BioGenesis.
Emerson says the seal indicates that manufacturers have a robust raw-materials supplier-qualification program and precise, sensitive testing methodologies that are frequently validated. In addition, to be EQP certified, manufacturers must be certified as cGMP compliant by a third party such as NSF International, the United States Pharmacopeia, or the Natural Products Association.
“Our evaluation has ensured that HPLC testing verified the monacolins to be within naturally occurring levels and further documented that citrinin was not present in significant quantities in these products,” added Lise Alschuler, ND, vice president of quality and education for Emerson Ecologics.
EQP is designed to help healthcare professionals decide which supplement brands to recommend to their patients.
