Guided by three pillars—food, geography, and technology—the recently launched Horizon 10 program is designed to support collaborative innovation.

In a July 2, 2025, press release, dairy, nutrition, and taste producer Carbery Group, announced a new initiative, Horizon 10, to identify insights for the future of food, markets, and technology. The research, data, and thought leadership program is intended to support Carbery’s growth and strengthen customer partnerships by identifying opportunities for innovation and exploring new market trends.

“Horizon 10 reflects our commitment to thinking long term—about what we make, how we make it, and where we focus,” stated Jason Hawkins, Carbery Group CEO, in the press release. “It’s about working differently and supporting our customers as they navigate change. We want this to be a shared journey, grounded in insight, innovation, and collaboration.”

Three focus areas will guide the program over the next 10 years: the future of food, geographical markets, and technology. The future of food focus seeks to understand the influence of evolving consumer interests in health and taste on ingredient and product development. The geographical markets focus aims to identify areas of growth based on the rising of middle classes, new consumption trends, geopolitics, trade dynamics, and access to supply chains and markets. The technology focus aims to understand how new technology tools, data, and innovation can be used for a more efficient and flexible food system.

“This exploration of the longer-term future under Horizon 10 sits alongside a more immediate focus by the business on potential new areas of innovation and opportunity,” Hawkins added. “Through partnerships with organizations like European food innovators EIT Food and leading venture capital firm SOSV and others, we are taking new approaches to deepen our innovation and capitalize on future growth opportunities.”

Two reports have already been released under the program. One is "The Future of Food: Health & Wellness Edition," which features analysis of macro trends, consumer insights, supply-chain dynamics, and functional ingredients with high growth potential,” as stated in the press release. The second report, "Horizon 10 – The Future of Dairy," explores “evolutionary, transformative and revolutionary scenarios” including enhanced transparency and precision fermentation.

“One question that kept coming up during our strategy work was, ‘How do you prepare for the future when so much is uncertain?’” explained Sarah O’Neill, global strategy director and Horizon 10 program lead. “While no one can predict exactly what’s ahead, we recognized the need to start thinking beyond the short term. Horizon 10 was developed as a way to help position Carbery—and our customers—for long-term success. It’s about building a deeper understanding of the trends shaping our industry and using that insight to guide thoughtful innovation and support our partners as they navigate what’s next.”
