FrieslandCampina promotes gut-muscle-axis ingredient for athletes: 2023 SupplySide West Preview

FrieslandCampina Ingredients (Amersfoort, the Netherlands) will highlight its recently launched Biotis Fermentis fermented gut-health ingredient at the SupplySide West trade show happening October 23-27, 2023, in Las Vegas, at booth #1617. First introduced at the Vitafoods Europe trade show in May, Biotis Fermentis combines whey protein, galacto-oligosaccharides prebiotic, and probiotic cultures. The company calls it a “first-of-its-kind” ingredient.

By addressing the gut-muscle axis, Biotis Fermentis can support gut health in athletes especially. Athletes can experience gastrointestinal issues as a result of intense training and dietary habits associated with heavy training. Biotis Fermentis is a “synergistic solution [that] was specifically developed to target the gut-muscle axis, enabling brands to create innovative products that support digestive comfort, fuel energy, and stimulate muscle protein synthesis,” the firm’s press release states.

Biotis Fermentis also showed its effects in a consumer research study conducted with MMR Research, the firm says. The company reports that of the 150 recreational athletes involved, 80% self-reported feeling satisfaction with their physical well-being after three weeks of taking Biotis Fermentis daily.

At SupplySide West, FrieslandCampina will also promote its Biotis GOS-OP High Purity ingredient, which was specifically designed to address the challenges that prebiotics typically face in the gummy supplement format due to the high load of active prebiotic ingredient that’s usually required. The company will showcase Biotis GOS-OP High Purity in a “Good to Gut Prebiotic Gummy” prototype.
